The 2010 KASP convention focused on the how-to’s in the MTSS process for academic, social/emotional and behavioral issues.
Featured Speakers
Dr. Howard Knoff, a nationally known speaker, is highly respected for his research and writing on school reform and organizational change, consultation and intervention, social skills and behavior management training and Response-to-Intervention training. On Thursday, Oct. 21st, Dr. Knoff presented a day-long workshop on the behavioral side of RT, including positive behavioral support, Tier 2 interventions, and Tier 3 support systems needed for success. Matthew K. Burns, PhD, is a Professor of Educational Psychology, Coordinator of the School Psychology program, and Co-Director of the Minnesota Center for Reading Research at the University Minnesota. He has authored over 100 national publications including co-editing or co-authoring six books regarding response to intervention. He is also a highly sought after national speaker regarding RTI, and has assisted in local school district implementation efforts in dozens of districts across many states. Dr. Burns is the Editor-Elect for School Psychology Review and was a member of the task force and co-author of School Psychology: A Blueprint for Training and Practice III. Finally, Dr. Burns was a practicing school psychologist and special education administrator in three districts across two states before becoming an academic. Murphy

Dr. Murphy is an internationally recognized trainer
and practitioner of brief solution-focused counseling
with children, adolescents, and school problems
and author of Brief Intervention for School Problems:
Outcome-Informed Strategies (with Barry Duncan,
Guilford Press, 2007) and the award-winning Solution-
Focused Counseling in Schools
Dr. Minke is Full Professor at Indiana University, where she teaches courses in counseling techniques, family-school collaboration and supervised field experiences. Before joining the faculty, Dr. Minke worked as a school psychologist in Virginia and Indiana. She served as chair of the NASP convention committee and is President-Elect of NASP.

Matthew K. Burns, University of Minnesota
Dr. Burns has authored more than
50 professional publications and has conducted
an equal number of local, state, national, and
international presentations. His work addresses
matching instructional demands to student skill
with curriculum-based assessment and problem-solving
team processes and outcomes. He is Associate Editor
for Assessment for Effective Intervention and
is on the editorial board of School Psychology
Review and Remedial and Special Education.

Dr.
Amanda VanDerHeyden, University of California-Santa
Barbara
Dr. VanderHeyden achieved one
of school psychology's highest honors in receiving
the Lightner Witmer Early Career Award Winner
in 2006. Working with Joe Witt, she's helped develop
LSU's STEEP model: Screening to Enhance Equitable
Placement. Dr. Vanderheyden has authored over
35 related articles and book chapters and works
as a national trainer and consultant to assist
districts implementing RTI models. She serves
on the editorial boards for School Psychology
Review, Journal of Early Intervention, and
is associate editor for Journal of Behavioral
Education.
They are Co-Authors of The
Handbook of Response to Intervention: The Science
and Practice of Assessment and Intervention (2007,
Springer). In January, Dr. Burns published with
co-author K. Gibbons Implementing Response-to-Intervention
iin Elementary and Secondary Schools: Procedures
to Assure Scientific-Based Practices (Routledge,
2008).
